A Day in Seward

Seward can be touristy with all the cruise ships that come through, but it’s still worth a visit! I hope to be able to make it on a boat tour of Kenai Fjords National Park next time I’m there, but here are a few options of how to spend your day for those sticking to land.

Exit Glacier: This is one of the most popular and accessible hikes within Kenai Fjords National Park. There’s a paved loop through the forest with small views of the glacier, but to get the best view, I recommend doing the 2 mile roundtrip hike to the overlook.

Lowell Point: Drive out to Lowell Point (7 minutes from town) to walk along the beach and watch the wildlife. Hadley always enjoys swimming, no matter the temperature of the water.

Resurrection South Campground: These sites are small and mostly concrete, BUT they have incredible views and a great walking path right along the water (this path can be taken throughout town). From our campsite, we were able to watch a raft of otters swim by both nights. This campground is also walking distance from downtown Seward, so everything is very accessible.

Take a hike to Tonsina Point!

For food, I highly recommend Gold Rush Bistro, but it’s a bit spendy. For a more casual option, I loved Seward Brewing Company. It’s a big place with a great atmosphere and delicious pizza.

Another option to escape the rain if need be is the Alaska Sea Life Center. The seals are adorable, and the touch pools will freeze your hands but are worth it.
