Skiing on Ester Dome

Quick Facts:

  • Drive time from Fairbanks: 15 minutes

  • Distance: <1 mile

  • Activity: Backcountry skiing

This isn’t a huge ski line, but it’s a fun place to get in some laps. There’s a fun meadow and nice glades, but it’s a very short ski. It’s north-facing, so it’s typically protected from wind and sun. Not a ton of people ski here, so you should be able to find fresh powder. The skin track isn’t always well-established, so be prepared to break trail.

We parked along the road on the right side, about 1/2 mile from the top of Ester Dome (see pin below). It seems like it would be possible to ski from the top of the dome, if you’re willing to do a little bit more tree skiing.
